OUR STORY
At Molo Mhlaba Institute (MMI), we are committed to empowering the next generation of young people to become agents of change in education and community development.

Founded in response to the underrepresentation of African Montessorians in marginalized communities, MMI addresses a critical gap: despite the proven benefits of Montessori methods, many children in underserved contexts are denied access to alternative forms of early learning. By training young people aged 18–26, combining residential and online learning with hands-on experience across three Molo Mhlaba School campuses, our programs ensure practical skill development, personal growth, and career mobility. Fellows graduate not only with knowledge and facilitation skills but also with the confidence, emotional intelligence, and resilience to lead in diverse learning environments.

OUR WHY
Molo Mhlaba Institute (MMI) is a response to the dearth and underrepresentation of African Montessorians willing to work in impoverished communities which deprives children from poor backgrounds the benefits of alternative forms of early learning education.

In South Africa, most trained Montessorians are ill prepared to work in marginalized communities and this cycle perpetuates an unequal education system that deprives poor parents of choices in curriculum and educational approaches due to affordability.
